Since Cassie decided to honor my husband, Mike by kidding on his birthday (which also happens to be the Summer Solstice), I told him that meant that he needed to name this pretty, little doe kid.  Naturally, his first suggestion was “Mike”.  Hmmmmmmm.  After much gentle prodding, attempting to convince him that that miiiiiiiiight not be the most suitable name for a feminine & pretty little doe kid . . . he begrudgingly suggested “Summer Solstice”.  Unfortunately, there weren’t enough spaces for that one to fit, so we finally decided upon Midsummer. . . yep, who is referred to as “Mike” by my darling husband when he thinks nobody is within ear-shot.

This is a smaller, "Old Style" line that has wonderful Dairy Character, General Appearance & type, terrific mammaries & loads of milk.  Summer, as I’d prefer she be referred, is a carbon copy of dam, Cassie in appearance AND in her super-sweet demeanor.  Also similar to her dam’s is the pretty & productive mammary she freshened with - couldn’t ask for a higher, wider rear udder!  Summer's exhibiting all of the "necessary components" we look for in a good quality animal, she just needs some time to pull them all together.  We look forward to watching her blossom!

2007 Update: Although she kidded w/ a single for 2006, Summer just milked her little heart out, producing wonderfully & even embarrassing some of the more mature does (or at least we'd like to THINK they were embarrassed, LOL)!  She's a dream TO milk, too with nice-sized teats & orifices & her silky soft udder texture that "milks down to nothing".  Although we wouldn't have minded if she'd decided to put a little more of her energy into growing rather than milking, she was a determined little thing & continued to produce very well all through winter & until it was time to dry her off for this year's kidding.

Summer kidded with gorgeous 2007 twins x Rap, is still determined to be the milkiest doe in the herd & is doing a fine job pursuing that goal, LOL!   &, while she is one of the sweetest little things you ever did meet, unfortunately that sweetness doesn't extend to photography sessions & we've thus far been unsuccessful in our attempts at getting any decent pics of Summer.  We'll keep trying, though!  *wink*
